barrage and its variants are still some of the best but i find them boring to play so i mix it up sometimes using a prep shot build or glass arrows spiker. and bha is cool

[skill]expert focus[/skill] [skill]burning arrow[/skill] [skill]apply poison[/skill] [skill]distracting shot[/skill] [skill]troll unguent[/skill] res. Fill in or change BA to [skill]broad head arrow[/skill] or whatever for whatever situation you are in. Rangers still excel in interrupts and condition spread, and with [skill]sloth hunter's shot[/skill] and the [skill]triple shot[/skill] [skill]dual shot[/skill] combo, can do decent damage and spread conditions at once.
edit: sorry for multiple preps. I got carried away with love for Expert Focus.

Do everything.
[skill]broad head arrow[/skill][skill]splinter weapon[/skill][skill]distracting shot[/skill][skill]death pact signet[/skill] ... then 3 open skills
11+1+1 Expertise
10+1 Marks
10 Channeling
Splinter-volley to blow mobs up, BHA to blow casters - notably bosses up - rest is whatever.

Wow i luv clarrissas build... two preparations cancelling each other out is FTW.
On a serious note, it depends on you're playstyle.
I like bha, punishing, prepared, barrage, etc. Theres too many options available.
Current meta game ranger is probably splinter barrager because its still good, even post nerf, or perhaps as alex said splinter volley with a different elite.

The rest are optional really. AoE daze + AoE attack pretty much owns.

Is it possible to give me a build with something other than BHA or BA that works just as well in pve? Possibly a preparation such as GA?

'meh'
There's few elites as strong as BHA in PvE.
By GA, I assume you meant Glass Arrows? If so, Triple Shot waves hello.
Also, you could have fun with Prepared Shot...
[skill]prepared shot[/skill][skill]savage shot[/skill][skill]distracting shot[/skill][skill]read the wind[/skill]
... then 3 PvE skills of your choice, powered by Prepshot - "Finish Him!", the Ebon Honor Ward and Pain Inverter are all strong skills that Prep can power out.

I know.
It's still sexy though, PvE has never been easier.
A change from BHA/Epedemic for me.

Stick to expertise/marksmanship skills so you can run a 13/14 split (respectively). Add a res if you want, and another PvE skill (such as finish him) wouldn't be bad. It can be anything you want really.

Sorry to question your mightyness, but is the extra damage gain (assuming you're talking about the GA spiker) really better than going 14 exp/13 marks instead and knocking them hefty 10 energies down another point to 4e?

Forgot about that breakpoint. Yeah, go 14 expertise/13 marksmanship.

If you run 14/13, is bringing Conjure worth it with only 3 attributes in Fire Magic?

13/12/8 should be fine then I guess.
